Hi, I am Philip Jeong, a senior from Atlanta.

Cellist Philip Jeong, 15, first picked up the cello at the age of nine and made his first solo appearance at the age of 12 at Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall. Philip has soloed with the Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra and the Gwinnett County Youth Symphony Orchestra as a winner of their respective Concerto Competitions. In addition, he performed in Morgan Concert Hall at Kennesaw State University as a winner of MTNA Junior String Competition as well as in Carlos Museum Ackerman Hall at Emory as an invited Atlanta’s Young Artist in the Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta Family Concert. Philip won numerous concerto competitions and international music competitions in the United States, Canada, Italy, Germany, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. As a competition winner, he was selected to perform at the Beethoven House in Bonn (Germany), at the Carnegie Hall in New York (USA), and at Teatro Studio, Parco Della Musica in Rome (Italy).


Philip currently studies with Mr. Lluís Claret and previously with Dr. Jesús Castro-Balbi. Philip took part in the Heifetz Institute Summer Program under the studio of Andrew Mark and the Music@Menlo Chamber Music Festival and Institute. He received masterclasses from violinist Arnaud Sussmann, clarinetist Tommaso Lonquich, and the American String Quartet as well as coaching from luminaries including violinist Stella Chen, violinist Paul Huang, violinist Kristin Lee, violinist James Thompson, violinist Chad Hooper, violist Paul Neubauer, cellist Dmitri Atapine, cellist Christine Walevska, cellist Nicholas Canellakis, cellist Sihao He, cellist Mihai Marica, cellist David Requiro, pianist Hyeyeon Park, pianist Wu Qian, pianist Mika Sasaki, and violinists Jeffrey Myers and Ryan Meehan of the Calidore String Quartet.


As a chamber musician, Philip attended the Emory Youth Chamber Program instructed by the Vega String Quartet members. His chamber group, violinist Claire Cho and pianist Nathan Liu of the Enchant Trio performed at Spivey Hall. His trio performed at the Chamber Music Concert at the Nacoochee Culture Center in North Georgia as well. In addition, Philip was invited to perform in a concert series “CelloMania” at the Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival 41st Season in North Carolina, in which he performed with cellist Sara Sant’Ambrogio, cellist Jesús Castro-Balbi, cellist Guang Wang, cellist Charae Krueger, cellist Martin Gueorguiev, and cellist Khari Joyner. He performed the magical Villa-Lobos Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 for eight cellos and soprano with soprano Bethany Mamola in Cannon Chapel at Emory for the Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta. Philip has been invited to perform with cellist Zuill Bailey at the next “CelloMania” concert series at Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival in 2024. 
 

As a principal cellist, Philip has performed at Phillips Academy Andover.
